Spaceman is an upcoming American science fiction drama film directed by Johan Renck and written by Colby Day, based on the 2017 novel Spaceman of Bohemia by Jaroslav Kalfař. The film stars Adam Sandler, Paul Dano, Carey Mulligan, Kunal Nayyar, and Isabella Rossellini. It tells the story of an astronaut sent on a mission to the edge of the galaxy who encounters a creature that helps him put his earthly problems back together.

Spaceman is scheduled to have its world premiere at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival in February 2024,[1] and is scheduled for a streaming release by Netflix on March 1, 2024.

Premise

As an astronaut sent to the edge of the galaxy to collect mysterious ancient dust finds his earthly life falling to pieces, he turns to the only voice who can help him try to put it back together. It just so happens to belong to a creature from the beginning of time lurking in the shadows of his ship.[2]

Principal photography began in April 19, 2021, in New York City, and wrapped on July 1, 2021, in the Czech Republic.[6][7] In the Czech Republic, filming took place in Prague and surrounding areas of the country's Central Bohemian Region.[8]

Release

Spaceman will have its world premiere at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival in the Berlinale Special section in February 2024.[9] It is scheduled to be released on March 1, 2024,[10] delayed from the original 2023 release due to the impact of the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.[11]
