Steve Lehto is an American attorney,[1] professor,[2][3] author and YouTuber, known for consumer protection and lemon law litigation in Michigan.[4] Steve has taught at the University of Detroit Mercy as an adjunct professor.[3][5][6][7] He is an alumnus of Oakland University[8] earning a bachelor's degree in history[7] and earned his Juris Doctor from Southwestern University Law School in Los Angeles.[8][7] Steve "has been featured on CNN, the BBC, and Good Morning America. Lehto is the author of several notable books."[9][10]

Early life and education

Steve grew up in the Keweenaw Peninsula in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.[11] Lehto is the youngest of six children. His older brother Ken Lehto, became an engineer at Ford Motor Company.[12] Rick Lehto worked at Walled Lake-Based Williams International that makes small turbine engines with William Carry one of the Turbine car engineers that worked on Chrysler Turbine Car.[2] During high school he worked at a gas station in Birmingham.[13]

Professional career

Lehto was admitted to practice to practice law in Michigan on November 5, 1991.[14] Lehto has been interviewed on news stories about consumer and auto case law.[15] In 2020 Steve was selected one of the Super Lawyers in Michigan.[16]

Steve did Pro bono work for Hot rod owners that attended the Woodward Dream Cruise in Royal Oak, Michigan who were ticketed for a vehicular noise ordinance.[17] At the time the Royal Oak police had issued over 150 tickets in Royal Oak District court.[14][13] in 1997 he defended almost 50 people and 20 people for free.[18]

Radio broadcasting

Steve started his radio career at WWCK as a disc jockey in flint.[11][19] He worked as a radio talkshow host.[20] He hosted his shows Lehto's Law on WFDF-AM(910) out of Flint, Michigan.[21]

YouTube

Lehto has a YouTube channel with just over 451,000 subscribers as of December 10, 2023.[22] He also has a second YouTube Channel which is call Steve Lehto Vault, videos that don't fit into his other Channel. It has only 20,300 subscribers as of December 10, 2023.[23] In addition to his YouTube Channel, Steve has done a show called LetoLive onMyMichiganTV.[24]

Writing

Lehto wrote several articles for Jalopnik[25] and Opposite Lock. He has published several books. He also contributed to the HuffPost Contributor platform.[26]

At Death's Door: The Truth Behind Michigan Larges Mass Murder was mentioned on The Tonight Show.[27] Jay Leno also wrote the forward for Steve's books "Chrysler's Turbine Car: The Rise and Fall of Detroit's Coolest Creation" and "Preston Tucker and His Battle to Build the Car of Tomorrow.",[8][28][29] This book also was listed as one of the 2007 Michigan Notable Books by the Library of Michigan.[30]

Steve's book "Michigan's Columbus: The Life of Douglass Houghton" by Steve Lehto, Momentum Books was listed as one of Library of Michigan 2010 Michigan Notable Books.[35]
