The Syndicate Nature Trail is a hiking trail in Dominica. It is one of two nature trails in Morne Diablotin National Park.[1][2] It is located in the foothills of Morne Diablotin, Dominica's tallest mountain, near the edge of the Picard River Gorge.[1]
The trail is a loop of approximately 1 mile (1.6 km). The entrance to the trail is at the Syndicate Visitor Centre.[3] The trail is also accessible via the Waitukubuli National Trail.[4][4]
It is located the on 205 acre (0.83 km2) Syndicate Parrot Preserve, most of which is forest or rainforest.[1][2] The trail is popular with birdwatchers, as the preserve is home to the Sisserou Parrot (Amazona imperialis) and the Jaco Parrot (Amazona arausiaca),[3] both of which are endemic to Dominica.[3][5] The Sisserou Parrot is Dominica's national bird,[3] and can be seen on Dominica's coat of arms.
In September 2017, the trail was closed in after Hurricane Maria hit the island.[6] The trail was reopened in 2018, after the Dominica's Forestry, Wildlife and National Parks Division, worked with local and regional partners to clear the trail and other sites.[6]
