Synoptic Office is a design consultancy headquartered in New York City. It was founded in 2012 by Parsons School of Design Professors Caspar Lam and YuJune Park.

The consultancy is a certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE).

History

Synoptic Office partners Caspar Lam and YuJune Park met at Yale University in 2008 while obtaining their MFAs in Graphic Design. Lam and Park worked on projects together during their time in graduate school and in the transitional phase of setting up Synoptic Office.

The studio was initiated after the pair began working on experimental interactive and form making projects including Sky Map and Ming Romantic. The latter is a Chinese typeface inspired by printed type originating from the Song and Ming dynasties.

Ming Romantic: Collected and Bound[1] was published in 2016, and the studio officially released the typeface Ming Romantic in 2018. Lam and Park presented the typeface at the Typographic's Conference in 2016,[2] and the publication is now held in the archives of the Cooper Union Herb Lubalin Study Center, National Gallery of Victoria, Smithsonian Institute Libraries, and the Yale University Robert B.Haas Family Arts Library.
