M&H Distillery, also known as Milk & Honey Distillery, is an Israeli craft distillery situated in Tel Aviv, Israel. Established in 2013, M&H Distillery has quickly become a prominent player in the global whisky scene, celebrated for its commitment to innovation, quality craftsmanship, and a unique blend of tradition and modernity.
The distillery's name refers to the biblical phrase "The Land of Milk and Honey".
History
The planning of the distillery began in 2012 when a group of entrepreneurs, including Gal Kalkshtein, Amit Dror, Simon Frid, Roey Licht, and Naama Licht, decided to establish Israel's first whisky distillery. They chose a building in the southern part of Tel Aviv, near Bloomfield Stadium. The distillery commenced operations in 2014.
Additional partners in the establishment of the distillery include Lital Kalkshtein, who serves as the director, Nir Gilit, who served as the CEO in its early years and until the completion of the establishment process, and Tomer Goren, the head distiller of the distillery.
Throughout its early operations, the distillery was advised by Scottish consultant Dr. Jim Swan, a whisky specialist, until his passing in February 2017.
The first products were released at the beginning of 2016.
In May 2017, the distillery unveiled Israel's first-ever single-malt whisky, made by its Head Distiller, Tomer Goren. Their whisky, aged for more than 3 years, has been noted to be well-matured due to Israel's warm climate affecting and accelerating the aging process.[1][2]
Awards and Recognition
In 2023, the distillery was awarded the title of the Best Single Malt Whisky in the world at the prestigious World Whiskies Awards for its Elements Sherry Cask - a Single Malt Whisky that matured in sherry and bourbon casks. Additionally, the distillery received several other awards at the Icons of Whisky competition
Best Craft Distillery in the World for 2021 at the Icons of Whisky competition by "Whisky Magazine."
Award for the Most Innovative Distillery in the World (Brand Innovator of the Year) for 2022 at the Icons of Whisky competition by "Whisky Magazine."
