Tihama Region is one of the six regions in Yemen that is expected to be established in the upcoming constitution, becoming an autonomous federal self-governing region in western Yemen. The Tihama Region comprises four Yemeni governorates: Al Hudaydah, Raymah, Al Mahwit, and Hajjah, with its capital being Al Hudaydah.[1]
Etymology
Tihama is named after its intense heat and calm winds. Tahama means extreme heat and calmness of the wind. It is said that taham al-har refers to extreme heat, and it is also said to be named after the change in its air. Taham ad-dahn means a change in its smell.
