Life and career
Francesco Gaetano "Franko" Moliterno[1] is from Bedford,[2] and had a brother, Fabio,[3] who ran Escobarbers in Bedford town centre[4] and committed suicide[3] on 15 September 2021[5] following years of poor mental health;[3] both are of Italian descent.[6] Franko set up a firm which offered production tuition in June 2015, a clothing range in October 2016, and a label in 2017,[7] before releasing an album, Power, in 2018, and then another one, DNA, on 23 October 2020.[8] In February 2022, he released "Melia", a collaboration with free climber George King which had came about after King used Moliterno's "Abyss" in one of his tracks,[9] and in June 2022, in tribute to Fabio, Franko's family supported a wellbeing exposition.[10]
On 15 September 2022, to mark one year of Fabio's death, Franko released a single, "What's On Your Mind", which featured SJ Loq, Myleedan, Phizi, and Too Lippy[5] and appeared on a subsequent We Are England documentary exploring male suicide which involved the remaining Moliternos; originally scheduled for 16 September 2022,[10] the death of Queen Elizabeth II meant that schedules were scrambled,[11] and the programme actually aired three weeks later.[12] A drum and bass remix of the song was released on 10 October 2022;[5] profits from both versions went to Mind.[13]
In October 2022, Moliterno organised a mental health seminar with DnB Allstars,[14] and in December 2022, Moliterno organised a writer's camp with Ultra Records, which took place the following month; during this week, he recorded 22 tracks, the first of which was "Rave Out", which featured Skepsis and Charlotte Plank and discussed men's mental health.[14] The track came out in June 2023,[15] by which time Moliterno's "Killer" had charted at No. 94 on the UK Singles Downloads Chart, and charted at No. 37 on the UK Singles Chart.[16]
