Verwurelter[1] or verwurrelter,[2] also known as fueskichelcher,[3] is a traditional Luxembourg pastry. The dish is a type of doughnut, and it is most commonly served during the Fuesent carnival season in Luxembourg.[1][2][4][5]
Composition
Ingredients include flour, milk, butter, eggs, and yeast.[1] The dough is formed into a knot, deep fried,[6] and topped with powdered sugar or granulated sugar.[1][6]
Fuesent
Fuesent, also known as Fuesecht, is a carnival season similar to Fasching that runs from the beginning of February and continues in some areas through the end of March.[1][2][7] It begins the day after the traditional celebration of Liichtmëssdaag, during which children, singing and carrying lanterns, go from door to door to get treats and money.[7][8][9]
Fuesent includes parades known as "cavalcades"; the first cavalcades were in Diekirch in 1870.[7]
