Vidaa Muyarchi (transl. Persistence) is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language action thriller film written and directed by Magizh Thirumeni. It is produced by Subaskaran Allirajah under the production banner Lyca Productions. The film stars Ajith Kumar, Arjun Sarja, Trisha, Regina Cassandra and Arav.

Initially, the film was supposed to be directed by Vignesh Shivan, however, he got subsequently replaced by Magizh Thirumeni. It was announced in May 2023, along with title of the film. Principal photography commenced in October 2023. The film has music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, while the cinematography will be handled by Nirav Shah and editing by N. B. Srikanth.

Development

In March 2022, Vignesh Shivan was reported to direct Ajith's 62nd film in the lead role. The film was also reported to have Nayanthara in the lead role, alongside Ajith for the fifth time and Anirudh Ravichander would compose the songs.[1] The same March on the 18th, the collaboration of Ajith, Vignesh and Anirudh was officially confirmed, under the tentative title AK62, by the producer Subaskaran Allirajah under Lyca Productions.[2] Ajith reportedly received a remuneration of ₹105 crore (US$13 million) for the film.[3] In January 2023, Magizh Thirumeni was reported to replace Vignesh and direct the film, due to Ajith not being impressed by the script after development.[4] Reportedly, a muhurat puja was held on 21 February in Chennai, which Ajith was not able to attend.[5] On Ajith's birthday (1 May 2023), the replace of Vignesh with Magizh was confirmed by the producers, along with the title Vidaa Muyarchi and the crew.[6] Cinematography is handled by Nirav Shah,[7] and editing by N. B. Srikanth.[8]

Casting

Before the replacement, Shihan Hussaini announced his commitments to the film in a tweet, which he deleted later.[9] Post the replacement, Arjun Das was reported to play the antagonist.[10] In September 2023, Trisha was confirmed to play the lead female role, pairing alongside Ajith for the fifth time after Ji (2005), Kireedam (2007), Mankatha (2011) and Yennai Arindhaal (2015).[11] The same month, a meeting between Ajith and Sanjay Dutt in Dubai made speculations of a possible collaboration between the two, which later reports suggested would happen in the film. He was further reported to play a lead role in the film. Arav was also reported to be a part of the cast,[12] alongside Huma Qureshi in her second collaboration with Ajith after Valimai (2022).[13] In early October, Regina Cassandra was announced being a part of the cast.[14] On 14 December, Arav and Arjun Sarja were announced being part of the cast. The latter would be reuniting with Ajith after Mankatha.[15]

Filming

Principal photography began on 4 October 2023 in Azerbaijan.[16][17] It was to commence on the first week of September 2023, however, due to Ajith's commitments to his world tour, the shooting got delayed.[18] The makers' decision to shoot in Azerbaijan received negative responses from netizens as the country was then under civil unrest, particularly regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.[19] The filming schedule reportedly featured Ajith in racy car action sequence.[20] In late November, Ajith returned to Chennai for a short break,[21] and returned to filming by 4 December.[22]

Music

The music and background score is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, in his maiden collaboration with Thirumeni; third with Ajith after Vedalam (2015) and Vivegam (2017).[23]

The digital streaming rights were acquired by Netflix and the satellite rights by Sun TV.[24]
