Zempoala is a Mexican town, head of the municipality of Zempoala in the state of Hidalgo. On December 1, 2020, it was declared one of the Pueblos Mágicos of Hidalgo.[2] On July 5, 2015, Aqueduct of Padre Tembleque of which the Convent of All Saints is part of it; was declared as World Heritage Site in Mexico.[3][4]

Geography

It is located in the geographical region of the plains of Apan,[5] Corresponds to the geographical coordinates 19° 54' 55.428" of latitude north and 98° 40' 05.27" of length west, with an altitude of 2456  m s.n.m.[6] Cuenta con un clima semiseco templado;[7][8] It registers an average annual temperature of 14.3°C., with a rainfall of 494 millimeters per year and the rainy season is from June to September.[9]

As for physiography, it is located within the province of the Neovolcanic Axis within the subprovince of Lagos y Volcanes de Anáhuac; its land is lomerío.[7][8][10] With regard to the hudrography, it is positioned in the Panuco region, Within the basin of theMoctezuma River, in the sub-basin of the Tezontepec River.[7][8][11]

Demographics

In accordance with the 2020 Population and Housing Census of the INEGI; The town has a population of 7205, which represents 72.55% of the municipal population. [12][13] Of which 3442 are men and 3763 are women; with a ratio of 91.47 males per 100 females.[12][13]

The people who speak some indigenous language, is 47 people, about 0.65 % of the population of the city.[12] In the city there are 225 people who are considered Afro-Mexicans or Afro-descendants, about 3.12 % of the

According to data from the INEGI 2020 Census, some 5868 declare practicing the Catholic religion; some 383 people reported professing a Protestant or Christian evangelical religion; 10 people declared another religion; and some 937 people who declared that they had no religion or were not affiliated with one, but were believers.[12]
