- 不同碳原子數的烷可以製作不同燃料:
- 碳原子數 1-5沸點(沸點40℃以下):天然氣。甲烷、乙烷、丙烷、丁烷、戊烷
- 碳原子數 6(沸點40-70℃):汽油。己烷
- 碳原子數 7-9(沸點70-170℃):石腦油。庚烷、辛烷、壬烷
- 碳原子數 10-13(沸點170-250℃):煤油。癸烷、十一烷、十二烷、十三烷
- 碳原子數 14-20(沸點250-350℃):柴油。十四烷至二十烷
- 碳原子數 >21(沸點350℃以上):重油、蠟、瀝青。二十一烷及以後
