Local elections was held in Caloocan on May 14, 2007, within the Philippine general election. The voters elected the elective local posts in the city: the mayor, vice mayor, the two Congressmen, and the councilors, six in each of the city's two legislative districts.
Background
Mayor Enrico "Recom" Echiverri was on his first term, and sought re-election for second term. He ran under Lakas-CMD. He faced former Mayor Reynaldo "Rey" Malonzo of PDP-Laban, and both Asistio brothers who both ran for mayoralty:[1] First District Rep. Luis "Baby" Asistio of Nacionalista and former Mayor Macario "Boy" Asistio Jr. of PMP.
Vice Mayor Luisito "Luis Tito" Varela was on his first term, and he sought re-election for third and final term. He faced Councilor Henry Camayo.
First District Rep. Oscar "Oca" Malapitan was on first term, sough re-election for second term. He faced actress Nadia Montenegro,[2] Ricojudge Janvier "RJ" Echiverri, son of Mayor Enrico "Recom" Echiverri, and Police Chief Leo Garra.
Second District Rep. Luis "Baby" Asistio ran for mayor. His party chosen former Rep. Edgar Erice to run in his place. Erice was challenged by Councilor Mary Mitzi "Mitch" Cajayon-Uy, former Councilor Albert "Bebong" Muñoz, nephew of Asistio brothers and boyfriend of actress Jolina Magdangal.,[3] and Councilor Tolentino "Tino" Bagus.
First District Rep. Luis "Baby" Asistio, local chairman of United Opposition and Nationalist People's Coalition formed a city-wide political alliance called "Caloocan Grand Coalition".[4]
