Ashar District (Persian: بخش آشار) is in Mehrestan County, Sistan and Baluchestan province, Iran. Its capital is the city of Ashar.[3]
At the 2006 National Census, its population (as a part of Sarbaz County) was 12,090 in 2,355 households.[4] The following census in 2011 counted 17,784 people in 4,049 households,[5] by which time the district had been separated from the county to become a part of the newly formed Zaboli County[6] (renamed Mehrestan County).[7] At the latest census in 2016, the district had 15,949 inhabitants in 3,929 households.[2]
After the census, the village of Ashar was elevated to the status of a city.[3]
