Scott Hilton is an American banker and politician from Georgia. Hilton is a Republican member of the Georgia House of Representatives from District 48. He formerly represented District 95. Hilton is also a senior vice president at Truist Financial.
Education and career
Hilton earned a bachelor's degree with honors in finance and international business with a minor in psychology from Georgetown University in 2002. Hilton earned a one-year accelerated MBA from Emory University in 2006.[1][2]
From 2006 to 2016, Hilton was a senior vice president at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. In 2016, Hilton became the senior vice president of commercial banking at SunTrust Banks, which is now Truist Financial.[3][4]
Georgia House of Representatives
On November 8, 2016, Hilton won election unopposed and became a Republican member of Georgia House of Representatives for District 95. Hilton was sworn in on January 9, 2017.[5][6] In November 2018, Hilton lost the election for District 95 with 48.60% of the vote. Hilton was defeated by Beth Moore.[7][4]
On November 8, 2022, Hilton defeated Democrat Mary Robichaux for election to District 48 with 54.3% of the vote and was sworn in on January 9, 2023.[2]
Hilton has authored or sponsored 95 bills.[8][9] He is a member of the Republican party.[10][9]
Hilton served as executive director for the Georgians First Commission under the Office of Governor Brian Kemp.[1][11]
Political views
Hilton supports Frontline Policy Action, a Family Policy Council of the Christian nationalist group Family Policy Alliance.[12] This group is unrepentant in its disrespect of the transgender community yet portends that their actions are to "protect children."[13] In 2019, Hilton attended the FPA's Statesmen Academy.[14]
During the 2022-2023 legislative session, Hilton voted twice in support of SB 140, which denied healthcare for gender diverse children against the position of every U.S. major medical association, and restricted the rights of their parents.[15][16]
Hilton supports Moms for Liberty and participated in the group's town hall on November 13, 2023 at the Gas South Convention Center in Duluth, GA. [17]
Personal life
Hilton's wife is Meredith Hilton, an attorney. They have three children. Hilton and his family live in Peachtree Corners, Georgia.[1][4]
