The 2018 Murfreesboro mayoral election took place on August 2, 2018. All Murfreesboro municipal elections are required to be non-partisan, but candidates can be affiliated with political parties. Incumbent Republican mayor Shane McFarland ran for re-election and won a second term in office with an uncontested race.[1] The mayoral election coincided with other elections, including races for Murfreesboro City Council.[2]
Murfreesboro has been a Republican stronghold. In the 2016 presidential election, Murfreesboro voted for Donald Trump by 19.0% and voted for Bill Lee by 9.6% in the 2018 gubernatorial election. During this time, Phil Bredesen was the most recent Democrat to win Murfreesboro by 0.4% in the 2018 senate election.[3]
