Marivan (Persian: مريوان; Kurdish: مەریوان ) also known as Mariwan and Qale Marīvān—"Fort Marivan"; formerly, Dezhe Shahpur (Persian: دِژ شاپور), also Romanized as Dezhe Shāhpūr and Dezhe Shapoor) ⓘ[3] is a city in the Central District of Marivan County, Kurdistan province, Iran, and serves as both capital of the district and of the county. The people of Marivan speak Kurdish.[4]
At the 2006 National Census, its population was 91,664 in 22,440 households.[5] The following census in 2011 counted 110,464 people in 29,743 households.[6] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 136,654 people in 39,368 households.[2]
