Sarab (Persian: سراب; also azeri: ساراب [3] is a city in the Central District of Sarab County, East Azerbaijan province, Iran, and serves as capital of both the county and the district.[4]
At the 2006 census, its population was 42,057 in 11,045 households.[5] The following census in 2011 counted 44,846 people in 13,353 households.[6] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 45,031 people in 13,953 households.[2]
Sarab is famous for its rugs.[7]
Culture
People of sarab contains 37% citizens, 16% nomad people, mainly from moghan and rest of peoples live in sarab's villages.[8]
100% of sarabi peaple are turkish azerbaijani
talking to azeri language but in its special accent, the pronunciation of words is more like Ardabil dialect but the verb conjugation is more similar to Tabriz dialect.[9][10]
Religion
Dominant group of city are muslims but in new generations of peoples, atheism can be found.[11]
100 % of muslims now are shiit that shia religion appeared in 15th century by safavid rulers(see: safavid conversion of Iran to Shia Islam).
Rugs
The rugs of Sarab, which are also classified among those known as Heriz, have light, rather bright colour schemes. The usual adjective for "of Sarab" would be "Sarab-i", this changed to "Serapi". In 1876, about the time that Sarabi rugs were coming on the market in England, the Prince of Wales made a trip to India on H.M.S. Serapis. The similarity of the names led to the form "Serapi" for the rugs.[12]
Climate
Sarab has a cold semi-arid climate (Köppen BSk). Winters are cold and snowy, while summers are warm to hot with little precipitation. Most of the annual precipitation falls between the months of November and May.

Neighborhood
Sarab City is surrounded by many villages around it.[13] Some of its main villages are: Razliq, Asbforushan, Qaleh Juq, Andarab and 161 others; also there is 13 abandoned villages around it.[14][15]
East of Sarab leads to Ardabil province, in the north of that lays Savalan Mountain, the westward of sarab leads to Bostan Abad city and to the south Bozghush mountains is placed.[16][17]
