雖然這個對中國的稱呼與大多數中亞和斯拉夫語言共享，其名稱的形式可能來自維吾爾語的-i和-y結尾[1]，但由於其指的是游牧民族統治漢族的時代，這個詞中國境內被正式禁止，並被視作種族污辱的用語。
